Maj. Gen. Randal D. Fullhart
Commandant of Cadets
Major General Randal D. Fullhart was born in Kansas but raised on a farm in Indiana. His experiences in high school and support from a guidance counselor led to his appointment to the U.S. Air Force Academy, where he received his commission in 1979 along with a Bachelor of Science in international affairs.
Over the course of his more than 32-year career, Maj. Gen. Fullhart commanded at the squadron, group, and wing levels and commanded two expeditionary flying squadrons, an expeditionary operations group in Operation Allied Force and an expeditionary wing in Operation Iraqi Freedom. His passion for learning and teaching was further enriched as he served as commandant of the Air Command and Staff College, an in-residence master’s level program that included many international officers and more than 20,000 students participating through distance learning.
His experience also includes staff assignments in operations, safety, acquisition, and government affairs at the major command and Headquarters U.S. Air Force levels. He served as the assistant director of operations, Headquarters U.S. Air Forces in Europe, and has joint experience at U.S. Transportation Command, as well as joint interagency experience as deputy chief, Central Security Service, National Security Agency. Maj. Gen. Fullhart was vice commander, Air Force Cyber Command (Provisional), Barksdale Air Force Base, Louisiana, before his final assignment as director, Global Reach Programs, Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Acquisition, Headquarters U.S. Air Force, Washington, D.C.
With a love for flying that started when he earned his private license in high school, Maj. Gen. Fullhart is a command pilot with more than 3,500 flying hours in the C-141, KC-135, C-17, F-16, T-38 and T-37. His major awards and decorations include the Air Force Distinguished Service Medal, Legion of Merit with two oak leaf clusters, Bronze Star with oak leaf cluster, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with four oak leaf clusters, Aerial Achievement Medal, Joint Meritorious Unit Award with two oak leaf clusters, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with "V" device and three oak leaf clusters, Air Force Organizational Excellence Award with oak leaf cluster, and Combat Readiness Medal.
Serving as Commandant of Cadets continues a passion for the development of leaders who will go on to serve in the public and private sectors, as well as in the military services.
Maj. Gen. Fullhart is joined in service by his wife Kathy. Their son lives and works in Texas.
